How to build an easy Website?

There are several easy ways to build a website nowadays. But the first step is to sit down and think about what you would like your website to accomplish. What information should be on each page, how many pages are needed, what photos should I use, what point do I want to get across to the reader and so on. Part of your research should be to use the internet to see what your competitors are up to. You can also look to see if you find a website with great layout ideas that inspires you.

Do I really need a Website?

It is easy to spend hours and hours on social media like Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter to get our message out there. But because social media are set in their own designs and only let us input information in the same way as everyone else, they do not really represent you and you business in the best way. You need a real website that truly represents you, where you can get credibility to your brand, show your products, show what you are good at and tell the readers who you really are.

You do not have to be tech savvy

Thankfully you do not need to be tech savvy to be able to build your own website. You don´t need to know much about servers, programming and web hosting services. Now you can buy all that in an easy online site builder. Some of the most common ones are Weebly, Wix, and where you build everything yourself, starting with a template and then drag-and-drop interfaces that makes it super easy for you to change the pages as you please. They all vary greatly in the storage, bandwidth, and site options they allow, so read the small print thoroughly to find out how much you get with each provider.

Register your domain

First you have to register your domain, which is the address where you website will live, i.e. Anyone can buy a domain name, you only need to visit domain name registrars like GoDaddy or Namecheap. They will charge you for one year at a time (sometimes longer), which means that you own the domain name that whole year. Then you need to renew your purchase to continue to own the domain name. If you do not renew it, someone else can come in and buy it. This would obviously be a horrible idea if you already have started to build a good website on your domain name.

Choose a site builder and template

So, now your website has somewhere to live and you need to fill it with information. To do so you need to choose a site builder such as Weebly, Wix or WordPress. They all offer targeted templates that is based on your needs, such as templates for property realtors, restaurants or upcoming events for a football club. You can also make a template from scratch if you feel that you can not find one you like. Some site builders offer you great freedom to change and do what you wish, like Wix. While others restrict you to follow the template and not change that much, which is great if you are not that interested in web design.

Now you need to make the template look like you want and add custom content. Because you always want to add photos to you site, the site builders often offers stock photography with their services. You can also add buttons, text, icons, posts, logos and much more to make your website reflect you and your business in the best way possible.

Time to publish

When you are happy with the design and layout of the website, please take some time and test everything. Make sure all the buttons take you to the right pages, that all the links go to the right spots, that the ”contact us” displays the right email address etc. It is now time to publish your page and send it out into the world.

Good luck on the information highway!
